Nancy Knowlton recognized as a Canadian business leader for second consecutive year

Calgary, AB --- November 28, 2002 --- Nancy Knowlton, president, COO and co-founder of SMART Technologies Inc., has placed 8th on the 2002 ranking of Canada’s Top 100 Women Business Owners, one place higher than her 9th place ranking in 2001. Co-published by PROFIT: Your Guide to Business Success and Chatelaine, this list is the fourth-annual celebration of women’s achievements in Canadian business, ranking women-owned companies by gross revenues in their most recent complete fiscal year and highlighting the contributions these entrepreneurs make to society and the economy. Under Nancy’s leadership, SMART is a two-time recipient of the Canada Export Award (2000, 2002) and has been selected as one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies for the past six years (1996 to 2001).

One of only a handful of women leading multimillion-dollar technology companies, Nancy is responsible for SMART’s day-to-day operations. SMART is the industry pioneer and market leader in collaborative technology, helping groups meet, teach, train and present with the award-winning family of SMART Board interactive whiteboards, multimedia furniture, whiteboard cameras and software. SMART’s revenue has grown at a compound annual rate of at least 40 percent for the past five years. Currently selling its products in 65 countries worldwide, SMART has opened sales offices in Bonn, Tokyo, New York and Washington, DC in addition to its Calgary, Alberta headquarters and Stittsville, Ontario assembly plant.

Nancy is also the executive director of the SMARTer Kids Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that offers a variety of programs to educators and children. Recently appointed to Alberta’s Commission on Education, Nancy is currently participating in a comprehensive examination of K–12 education in Alberta.

“It is an honor to be recognized in such a diverse group of dynamic women entrepreneurs,” says Nancy Knowlton. “I hope our accomplishments will inspire the next generation of Canadian businesswomen to make significant contributions to Canada’s economic prosperity.”
